Jack Alford Jr. was born August 20, 1943 in Columbia, South Carolina.  He was the oldest of four children born to Ruth and (the late) Jack Alford, Sr. Jack, affectionately known as “Jackie,” passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Providence Hospital surrounded by family.

Jackie was educated in the public schools of Brooklyn, New York. He returned to Columbia in 1975 and began working at Stone Container.  Jackie had a long career with Stone Container, retiring after more than 20 years of service.

His mother instilled in him a strong love for Jehovah God, which moved him to symbolize his dedication to Him through baptism on June 1, 1960.  For over 56 years, Jackie was a faithful and dedicated servant of Jehovah, attending the East Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Columbia.

Jackie was well known for his stylish dressing and was a trailblazer for his fashion sense. He had a fun-loving personality and enjoyed entertaining. He was an amazing singer and enjoyed dancing and watching movies; but, his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for having a sense of humor like no other, his generosity toward others and his charisma. Jackie will truly be missed, but we long to see him in Paradise.

Mr. Alford is survived by his mother, Ruth Alford; sons, Gregory (Rosalind) and Jeffrey (Tracey) Alford; daughter, Natalie Flippen-Alford; grandchildren, Quiana, Alex, Tyrone and Caitlyn Alford; great-grandchildren: Xaviana, Jalen, Destiny and Zariah; aunt, Verdie Barrow; uncle, Manley Hogg; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his son, Stacey Alford; father, Jack Alford, Sr.; and siblings, Sandra Flippen, Ronald Alford and Deborah Woodard.
