Henry Moultrie
January 21, 1941 ~ June 12, 2017 (age 76) 76 Years OldHenry Moultrie was born January 21, 1941 in Columbia, SC. He was the son of the late Reverend Preston Henry Moultrie. His mother, Carolyn Haynes Moultrie who is currently 95 years of age, lives in Columbia, SC. He departed this life on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Richland Memorial Hospital, Columbia, SC after an extended illness.
He joined the United States Army and served his country well as a “Paratrooper”. When asked about his experience jumping out of airplanes he would say, “Each time was a very different experience!” He was a part of the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, KY; Company F Airborne 23 Infantry Brigade at Ft. Richardson, AK; and the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC.
Henry fought in the Vietnam War in 1967 and upon his return; he was awarded the Silver Star Medal which is the military’s third-highest personal decoration for valor in combat. This award was given by the United States Armed Forces for his gallantry in action against the enemy of the United States. Henry was a very straight forward person and always told things exactly like they were! He loved music and he loved Jesus Christ! He is known for quoting 1 John 4:4 which says, “Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world!”
He is survived by his precious mother Carolyn Haynes Moultrie of Columbia, SC. Four lovely daughters, Sharon (James) Hicks of Charlotte, NC, Carol (Arnold) Collins of Charleston, SC, Deidra Woods of Columbia, SC, and Teri (Wray) Gilliam of Columbia, SC. Seven grandchildren, Brian, Danita, Lewis, Crystal, Darius, Alex and Tierra. Five great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
